About

My name is Mark Daku, and I am a PhD Student in Political Science at the Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University.

I am most interested in why good ideas produce poor results. Specifically, my research is focused on HIV/AIDS policies in Southern Africa. In my dissertation, I hope to help explain why some governments successfully manage to address their epidemics, and why others fail tragically. With good research and good policies, countries can control and reverse their epidemics, leading to a future where one in five children aren’t statistically destined to fall victim to AIDS.

My other main area of interest lies in the role of the media, specifically in our ability to mine information from newspaper articles using automated methods. For more information, take a look at Lexicoder.
